I was so excited to see the Beach Music Online Page on Facebook hit 5000 likes this morning. I have been pushing it along with the help of Jim Quick & Coastline and the Band of Oz to get to this big milestone of 5000 Likes. I realize not everyone in the beach music world is on facebook. I have had to urge several to jump on board and take advantage of the exposure on the biggest social network on the planet. The marketing and traffic I get from facebook is a big deal. We have reached tens of thousands with posts and images that we have added to the site.
I have read this morning, comments telling one of the greatest beach music bands of all time, to stick to beach music. What does that mean?.. Stick to Beach Music? Beach music to me is a lot of things. I go to the beach music clubs and hear r&B, country, blues, soul, hip hop, jazz, and even rap. Guess what! The people don’t leave in droves and many times you see the dance floor fill up for most of these songs. I think people forget that beach music is not really a genre. At least, it is not an official genre that is recognized by the big associations in the music industry. I think Jim Quick may have been one of the first to define Beach Music as a culture.. more so than a genre. People come to the beach to listen to this music and enjoy time with friends. The clubs that are not located at the beach that play this music create an atmosphere that gives the beach music fan the same feeling they get at the beach.
It is coming back VERY SOON! – One of the Biggest Shows in the Beach Music World is coming back to the Internet. After a little break.. well 2 year break it is finally coming back! Have you tried to answer this question to people not From around here. “What is Beach Music?”
First I will say.. I am a FAN of the Beach Boys. I have listened to their music all my life and seen them in concert on several occasions. I like to see them when they come to the beach.. BUT in the words of General Norman Johnson…. “it ain’t beach music”. Sure a few songs of theirs have hit the Beach Music Radio stations and maybe even a few of them have charted. Typically, when a true beach music fan thinks of beach music they don’t think of the Beach Boys.. unless they are trying to define what Carolina Beach Music is not… I used to love it when General Norman Johnson started his “California Girls” joke prior to singing that song that is probably one of the most famous songs for our industry, “Carolina Girls”.
I have been away from the blogs.. I apologize for dropping off the beach music scene for a bit. The big April events came and went. Its now the middle of May and the summer is heating up. Thanks for all the response on my last beach music support blog post. It is important to support all of the bands… speaking of bands. I am working with a new one.. this one is REAL.. and news will be out very soon. Some friends helped me out on facebook last week. I can’t wait to announce more information as we get closer to the debut.
Is there going to be a Beach Music Day in NC or SC this year? To me, every day is a Happy Beach Music Day.. in years past I have seen information about cities as well as North Carolina and South Carolina celebrating a day proclaimed as Beach Music Day. I can’t find anything official about anything as far as an annual celebration. If anyone knows anything or has seen a specific date for 2014.. please let me know.

Will it be the horses or the birds?
Since I am not FOX or a part of the professional football association behind it… I am not allowed to use a certain phrase when talking about the big game today. We are planning our football snacking feast, getting ready to get the final ingredients and will probably cook up some chili, do some nachos and cheese dip.. We bought our big block of fake cheese and a can of those spicy tomatoes a couple of weeks ago before the big run took them off the shelves. Can’t decide who to pull for today, I would really like to see Russell Wilson do well. I know his last college game was not in the WolfPack uniform, but I remember some great games while he was with our teaam… plus he is an NC State Graduate. I am pretty sure he took real classes too!
