What is Beach Music in 3 Words or Less?
I know it is one of the hardest things to define when talking to people that have never heard “Beach Music”. Many of have our own definitions. I have heard several people say.. “When I hear it, I know it!” I was thinking about this again this morning.. What would your answer be to this … Read more

Great Lines – Beach Music Lyrics
Is Rod Stewart Beach Music?
I love that line in Rod Stewart’s Song “Sexual Religion”…the Power of a Woman and the Weakness of a Man. I remember DJ David Harris ( Hey Boy! to many of you) telling me about this song before it started ranking on the beach music charts.. YES! Beach Music Charts. It is not the first time Rod Stewart has made the beach music playlists of DJs, beach music clubs and radio stations ( both online and terrestrial). I can think of other Stewart songs being played in the past.. well still being played. Is Rod Stewart Beach Music?
DJs – Make Em Dance!
Okay DJs and Shag Dance Experts… Let’s say you walk into a beach music club and no one is on the dance floor. What song would you play next to get the shaggers out there to put the leather on the hard wood? New Songs.. Old Songs… It doesn’t matter! What song are you gonna play to Make’em dance?
Stick to Beach Music!
I have read this morning, comments telling one of the greatest beach music bands of all time, to stick to beach music. What does that mean?.. Stick to Beach Music? Beach music to me is a lot of things. I go to the beach music clubs and hear r&B, country, blues, soul, hip hop, jazz, and even rap. Guess what! The people don’t leave in droves and many times you see the dance floor fill up for most of these songs. I think people forget that beach music is not really a genre. At least, it is not an official genre that is recognized by the big associations in the music industry. I think Jim Quick may have been one of the first to define Beach Music as a culture.. more so than a genre. People come to the beach to listen to this music and enjoy time with friends. The clubs that are not located at the beach that play this music create an atmosphere that gives the beach music fan the same feeling they get at the beach.

Not the Beach Boys
What is Beach Music?
Have you tried to answer this question to people not From around here. “What is Beach Music?”
First I will say.. I am a FAN of the Beach Boys. I have listened to their music all my life and seen them in concert on several occasions. I like to see them when they come to the beach.. BUT in the words of General Norman Johnson…. “it ain’t beach music”. Sure a few songs of theirs have hit the Beach Music Radio stations and maybe even a few of them have charted. Typically, when a true beach music fan thinks of beach music they don’t think of the Beach Boys.. unless they are trying to define what Carolina Beach Music is not… I used to love it when General Norman Johnson started his “California Girls” joke prior to singing that song that is probably one of the most famous songs for our industry, “Carolina Girls”.
