As long as Willie Tee’s music has been a staple of Carolina Beach Music, it’s hard to believe that he only found out how popular his music was in “Beach Music Land” 2005! Thank the Good Lord he was able to be honored for his many contributions to our music in 2005 at The Carolina Beach Music Awards, before he passed away on September 11, 2007 of cancer. The folks at Ripete Records have assembled an outstanding collection of twenty-two tracks of his music. Of course there are the Beach Classics like “Thank You John”,
From her formative years to today, music has been an integral part of Rhonda McDaniel’s life. A veteran of the road, performing with different bands, she has just released her debut solo CD on KHP Music. This self-titled project contains several previously released, well known songs as well as some new ones for your discriminating musical tastes.
“On Easy Street” is the latest release from music veteran Pat Carpenter. This former Tempest and Poor Soul has delivered thirteen originals and covers that even the most discriminating ears and feet should find something to their liking. “We Got It Goin’ On” is out front with awesome background vocals accenting Pat’s lead vocals.
Calling all Gary Brown fans! Calling all Gary Brown fans! Eighteen songs ranging from previously released hits to newer tunes is now available from KHP Music. OK, here’s the lowdown on this project. First up is “Let’s Dance”, which has already proven popular since it’s release on the “Coast To Coast” CD compilation earlier this year.
The latest release from The Holiday Band on Ripete solidifies why they have been a fan favorite for several years. This CD shows off the writing talents of Mike Taylor and Duane Neese as well as the vocal talents of their four lead vocalists. If that’s not enough, their interpretation of the covers found here are noteworthy.
Man, I like Rick Strickland. He is one talented guy. He recently sent me a copy of his newest CD and then called to talk to me about it. Island Soul was released on KHP Records on April 5, along with all the other “just in time for SOS” singles and discs. He had a CD release party at JB Pivots in Charleston. “We tried something a little different,” he said, “and played the whole album during the first set. I was a little nervous about it, but there were several standing ovations during the set and the dance floor was packed.”
What do you get when you take five former members of one of Beach Music’s legendary bands, The Embers: Embers co-founder Jackie Gore, veteran members Gerald Davis (who was The Embers musical director for many years) and Johnny Barker (producer, arranger, song writer, and who performed two stints with the band) and former
One of the most talented artists in Beach Music today is Rick Strickland. Not only did he write every tune on his second solo CD, he also produced, arranged, engineered and mixed this project on KHP Music. “Bubba White’s” leads off this twelve-song ensemble of melodic poetry. This driving dance tune is sure to be one that will find favor on radio and in the clubs. Next, you can slow it down a bit with “Love The Night Away”, a nice smoothie. “I’m Happy” starts off with a testimony of love then gets into a nice dance groove. Some great guitar work greets our ears in “Best Love”, another smoothie.
Not being a company to rest on their laurels, KHP Music has released this fifteen-track compilation that has some of the best beach, boogie and soul music these ears have heard. I don’t have a crystal ball, but it’s not hard to predict that this CD could easily spawn several Top 10 and possibly #1 tunes. “All The Good Times” is the latest from Lia and The Wave and it kicks off this project. “That’s My Story” from Cracked Ice, featuring shared lead vocals of Brent Carter (formerly with Tower of Power) and Susan D has started making it on the air waves and in the clubs. The Holiday Band
Released in the nick of time for Mid-Winter, KHP Music has kicked of 2008 with an outstanding collection of fifteen original and cover tunes for your dancing and listening pleasure. Mike Stewart kicks things off with his own “Carolina’s Callin’ Me” that is delivered in his usual laid back style The youthful and talented Taylor Manning is next with a song written by her and her dad, Doug, “Piece of Your Heart”. She sang this one during CBMA weekend to great responses from the audiences. DJ, vocalist, harmonica player and auctioneer Gary Bass follows with “Fresh Coat of Paint”, one that is sure to keep the dance floor occupied. The Holiday Band is well
The follow-up to “Locals Only” arrived in high musical style. Fifteen tracks adorn this compilation and several are already on play lists all over Beach Music Land. There is no “one or two” songs here that are the pick of the litter. Take a listen to The Pat Carpenter Band’s version of “Lucky Lucky Me”. I love Jimmy Ruffin’s & Marvin Gaye’s versions of this tune, but PCB takes it to another level. It’s THAT good. The upbeat “Like To See My Baby” from Angel Rissoff and King Tyrone is another jewel in this musical crown. One of the hottest groups in the “up and coming” category, The Magnificents, score big time
